Can you bake PTH components with topside paste?

Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking of getting a toaster oven to do some smd baking and converting some of my pcbs from the all pth design that they are now to as much smd as possible.  My question is for some components that are only available in pth, or are less expensive in pth, can you possible paste and bake them too?  If you get a large enough paste on the pad, will it work?

Tried it, doesn't work.

First, really no way to get enough paste onto the pad.

Second, many of the components are not made from the correct epoxy/materials to survive reflow.  There is a lot more heat and stress on the package from reflow soldering than simply soldering the legs of a PTH component.
