Good job!  It took Kamen years of research to come up with the Segway, and could do it on your own is great.  Its hard to believe it 10 years old now, and his walking wheelchair is still not in the market.

I'm impressed that Segway is still not as popular as it could be, its probably so way ahead of its time.  It reminds me of when the car first came out.

Hi Hugo,

well done. I especially like the electronics part.

I was planning on starting something equal in the near future. As I don't have access to a workshop to do the mechanical stuff I hope I will get I done nevertheless.

I've used a Segway on two different occassions and loved it.  But they are rather expensive and not very portable in an average car.  The alternative I prefer is an electric scooter by GoPed.  This is not the cheap Chinese ones like one might see, but a proper off road capable one, made in USA, with Lithium Ion models capable of a range as much as 24 miles.   And yet small enough to pick up and carry in the trunk of most any car (except my Miata  :P)

The Segway has the advantage of being able to stand still of course, but the wheel base being wider than your body does make manuvering thru crowds problematic.  On the GoPed, your effective width is the same as it normally would be.  FWIW, GoPed also offers gasoline and propane models....but the electrics are so quiet I prefer that.

Thanks ! Mechanics is really a pain in the ass, as you can see for me, it's quite rubbish but it works, but maybe not forever... If I fin someone with the proper workshop i'd like to make something better.

I don't know who was first at a DIY Segway, but this guy is the first I remember back about 2006..

Apparently its all the safety features of a real Segway that are the hardest part to duplicate.
