your repair lifetime of switching power supplies?

I tried to fix a supply but I noticed the transformer was cracked, a fuse was blown and I got too lazy to fix the rest of it, so I just got some small ferrite beads and a to-220 condom from it.

I figured dealing with all the MOV, capacitors, burned PCB, burned insulation, old fan and something that was shorting it out was not worth it.

Do you trust SMPSU repairs? (this was a low end meanwell).

How long do they usually last you? Assuming its not in something really expensive, how much damage do you tolerate before you decide not to do a repair?

may be mechanical from throwing out  ::)

maybe I had two identical ones? It's not like it was powered up after being thrown into a deep dumpster.
Ian.M:
If its not the MOVs, startup resistor, bad caps, cooked secondary side rectifiers or an obvious dry joint or lifted pad etc. its probably not worth fixing . . . .

After replacing a failed startup resistor or bad caps, its often more reliable than original if you've used better quality components.

interesting thing is they had ferrite beads on the mov legs. I never saw that before.
