Repair / Re: HPAK 3458A Capacitor Replacement
« Last post by leighcorrigall on Today at 02:29:54 pm »
This post would be more useful if your board revisions were posted. For example, A4 REV B has an extra aluminum capacitor designated C17. My unit has an A4 REV A installed, and I would like to confirm C07, C08, and C09 without opening the covers.

I don't think you need to replace the tantalum capacitors. The aluminum capacitors are the most important because they tend to age. Depending on the load, they can age faster and compromise the board when leaking out.

Anyone else seen this?
Believe you have encountered this problem. So far, I haven't seen this phenomenon in SDS800XHD. If it appears next time, you can save the setup and let's see if we can duplicate it.

Pictures! You have to take pictures, because some will never believe you. And you may consider, that some aspects of it a very confusing, so you take your time and try to figure out if its a problem with the setup.

Thanks for the response.  But it is irrelevant whether “some believe me” or not.  The question was "whether anyone else has observed this same phenomenon?”  If others have, then they will reply stating such and, implicitly, believe me, not that it matters.  Others that have not, may not reply or might nit pick because “the internet”.  I’m a big boy and my delicate psyche might not break after all.

Regarding “taking my time”, I spent the better part of two days “figuring out if its a problem with the setup” — it’s not.  My first reactions were, "okay what’s happening here?” and “what did I do wrong?”

Regarding “pictures”, I’m fairly certain that a static picture of a trace with an offset of ~700 mV and a CH1 box saying “0.00V” doesn’t help with explaining the issue (or my incompetence) more so than my words?  It’s pretty straight forward and nothing I’ve experienced with my 4 other scopes.

I appreciate the reply/advice and I am not in any way being sarcastic — really, honestly, and truly.

What's to complain about, you low-life who dared to (AFAIK) never buy TME worth millions of $ from them, and who, to make things worse, dared to "infest" many with a "I like LeCroy" virus?!

I'm an example of your "victims". I always took you to be someone who again and again, intentionally or not, showed a LeCroy scope to be something nice and desirable.

:-DD  When I bought the first one, there really was nothing brand new with a decent BW and in my price range.  I was familiar with the brand and bought a used one.  That scope is has many features that you would only find in a high end scope still today.  Then again, there are things a cheap modern scope can do that this scope can't.   Consider math functions were important for physics.  Modern scopes have a lot of digital decoding for example.

We don't appear to do much in the states and guessing the high end market dried up.  Companies needed to find some way to be profitable.   As they shift their focus to higher volume, lower end test equipment and rebranding, hard to say how it will work out.

On a more serious note: situations like this one are appalling to me. How a largish corporation dares to clearly not give a flying f_ck about a grown up man/customer, no matter whether direct or indirect, who (AFAIK) never uttered anything in any way unfair about them.

One more reason for us to hope and wait for somewhat equivalent alternatives from Siglent and possibly others. And @Siglent, pay attention! There's an important lesson to learn here. Stay the way you are, continue to listen to customers and to treat them well and fair!

A few years ago, a member here had provided details on how to defeat the licensing with their older X-Stream software.   There were some comments about LeCroy not letting that slide as they still used that software with some of their current products.   And they make money on those licenses.   I suspect at least some of their reluctance to remain more open was due to this little episode.

Microcontrollers / Re: Signal filtering - Could this work ?
« Last post by nctnico on Today at 02:06:58 pm »
But it has smooth cut-off slope on frequency response and pretty mediocre rejection ratio at stop bandand, which is not suitable for many DSP applications.

Yes, the selectivity and stopband attenuation are not good.
However, you won't find a FIR filter of the same length that has a better (lower) equivalent noise bandwidth (ENBW).
True. Also keep in mind that you can have filtering in the analog domain which then adds to the boxcar filter response. With the boxcar filter having a steep roll-off, the real world results are typically pretty good.

Test Equipment / Re: SDS800X HD Wanted Features
« Last post by eTobey on Today at 02:03:03 pm »
Try with all supported languages, all supported measurements, parameters...with all implemented functions and features,  and select bigger font and menu panel on - just all what can pop up on display. . Where are now free areas.
Please...  ;)
This is valid argument but has already been said (in a rather socially poor way).

But what about some creativity?
- There could be a floating information window, freely configurable with what you want of information. Even adding a button could be an idea!

Test Equipment / Re: Magnova oscilloscope
« Last post by egonotto on Today at 02:00:53 pm »
Hello,

there is still the Micsig MHO3-3504 for 3568.81 € with 350 MHz. With 14 " 1920x1200 screen and 2 x 3 Gpts/s and 2 x 360 Mpts memory and variable filters.
AFAIK that one either doesn't have 12 bit or digital channels. And IIRC only two channels if it is the 12 bit model. All in all what the Magnova offers (be it on paper so far) is way more versatile & complete.

Hallo,

the Micsig MHO3-3504 has 12 bits and 4 channels.
But no function generator and no digital channels.

It all depends on what you need.

Best regards
egonotto

maybe you should use a metal detector if its on brick it might show up because their metal specific now. might have a weird reading not similar to rest of wall. find at least 1.

i would be pissed if the construction company left batteries in the walls WTF. sounds like you can find 1, go to a lawyer and have them find the rest, instead of wasting your time

I think it would make anyone anxious that some foreman is getting information about your buildings occupancy after they are gone. I would also get it checked out for microphones  ???

its lithium primary cell, they have steel bodies because its really flammable (elemental lithium)

these devices chirp also, very similar to a bird. you need to narrow down on the frequency and scan it high to catch it. try catching your cell phone, it also seems to do this. you get bursts when you access info (i.e. view a page).

and are you sure this is real? it kind of sounds like a prank. construction companies are cheap as fuck

Did you ever find out how they are made ?
I have some x-ray images of the ID.
