Title: 220W Microinverter with 350W PV panel

Hi

Can a 220W rated Microinverter be safely used for harvesting energy from a 350W PV panel?

If the open circuit voltage of the panel (Voc) doesn't exceed the maximum input voltage of the inverter, it *should* be safe.

This is commonly done as most of the day the panel produces way less power.  The inverter will self limit. Though, commonly that power inverter will be used with a 250-280W panel. It is just more economical. Such a big difference sounds like an installer trying to under bid on a system that sounds more powerful than it is.

(Array directions assume northern hemisphere; we have southern hemisphere folks here too, I know)

If the panels do not point south, this "overpanelling" is not unusual.  There is one user on the solar website with arrays to the east, south, and west which give better production over longer periods of the day.

I probably would not recommend a southern array with panels that much over the inverter ratings unless the inverter manufacturer says it is ok.
