bms with Li-ion
« on: October 29, 2023, 10:56:24 am »
Hello I got 2 Li-ion batteries, I want to use them but someone told me to have a bms. So I got a bms (picture below). Now I don't understand how this will work 100%.

So my plan is to connect my batteries with this bms like the picture below but also at the same time connect it with my circuit (for leds). Is this possible, and are my batteries protected against charging eachother while they provide power to my circuit?

I just want to be safe and its the first time working with bms...
Thanks in advance!

Proper BMS seems overkill for low power LED...why not just sense voltage of each cell, and stop the charging when either cell goes overvoltage?
AND...stop the discharging when either cell goes undervoltage.
That is a kind of BMS though, i suppose.
You could put in   active cell voltage balancing, so you can squeeze the most power in and out of the cells...but it seems overkill for your application.

That's a charger board, not a BMS. The most basic of BMS boards are quite cheap and will monitor each cell individually.
Probably the most sensible option would be a 1S configuration with the two cells in parallel. You can find combined charger/BMS boards for those, you can identify them as they'll have separate connections for the battery and load.
