lithium and polymer lithium batteries store is risk explosion?
« on: November 24, 2020, 12:50:51 pm »

If I store a lot of lithium and polymer lithium batteries by placing the battery on top of the other in a bag and in the closet, is there a risk that these batteries will explode or fire even without use?

Small but nonzero risk, to further reduce it, put them in a metal cabinet with some automatic fire extinguishers.
Cryptocurrency has taught me to love math and at the same time be baffled by it.

Cryptocurrency lesson 0: Altcoins and Bitcoin are not the same thing.

Do not store them fully charged. Neither good for safety, nor for their lifetime. 40% charge would be about right. As of dodgy batteries such as of unprotected Li poly, it's safer to put them in fire retardant pouches individually, so one battery cannot ignite others. Or metal boxes, with electric insulation between metal and battery of course.

BP-5L can be very different, from good batteries with protection circuit to complete trash with fake capacity, no protection, and god only knows their safety. If they are labeled as Nokia, and have dubious authenticity, assume the worst.

For example, you may only ship some batteries 30% charged by plane.
There must be a reason for that.

A bag may not be the best, at least you should cover the
poles with electrical tape. And a solid (cardboard) box
would be better.

What is the charging frequency of the BP-5L and BM20 batteries if I always charge up to 75% and store them?
