Power Path design review
« on: November 15, 2024, 08:43:35 am »
I’m designing the power path for my upcoming open hardware project: a precision measurement amplifier focused on DC/AC current, voltage, power, energy, and charge.

This power path is solely responsible for generating the internal supply voltages, yet it already accounts for 50% of the BOM and is proving more complex than anticipated. SEPIC converters and USB Type-C PD controllers bring significant complexity.

The plan is to create ±18.5V for current-sense amplifiers, enabling current measurements on common input voltages up to 16V, as well as 5V for the MCU and ADC to sample currents and calculate energy, power, and charge. The readings will be displayed on monochrome OLED screens.

What do you think of this design so far? Is there anything I might be overlooking? What potential pitfalls should I watch out for? Should I prototype just this section to test it in the lab before diving into the analog/digital design?

Feel free to provide honest and direct/harsh feedback.
I thrive on negative feedback, it keeps me stable.
