Hi,
As we conclude from the following…

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/renewable-energy/avoiding-reverse-recovery-problems-in-llc-converters/

….”LLC converter with series diode” finally gives the Power Electronics world a Low or high voltage, high power battery charging solution without downstream buck or boost stages being needed.
……..Would you agree?

AYK, hard switching, transformer based power stages can’t realistically be used at >1kW offline, since the noise becomes too high and malfunction of the SMPS control can result…unless you make the switching frequency really low and  heavily damp the switching transition…but then the SMPS overall physical size becomes too big.

Battery charging was usually considered "not the realm of the LLC" for various reasons......but not any more.....the series diode trick brings it on!

So finally…we have arrived! Do you agree?

Switching supplies for welding are pretty common and that's about as noisy as things get - literally a very powerful spark gap transmitter as the load.

Thanks, it would be interesting to see what the current waveform to a welder looked like.
