I consider those to be non-removable. Fortunately there are few repairs where it's required. If you do need to remove or install one, use a hair dryer to warm up the plastic. I've been selling those on the auction site and have to emphasize this with every buyer. Never work with them without pre-heating, you will break the clips otherwise. Even with pre-heating, the clips are still likely to break.
In your case, I would glue the knob back on with hot melt glue and try not to worry too much about it. If you need to remove it in the future, isopropyl alcohol or careful heat application will help break the bond.
