2SC2937 equivalent - high power/voltage SMPS NPN switcher
« on: April 25, 2023, 09:33:21 am »
Hi,

I'm having no luck finding an equivalent to 2SC2937 for use in an SMPS.
Seems Mosfets took over the SMPS job and now nothing out there comes close.

Any help appreciated.

This is from a Yamaha Rev 1 reverb unit.
It is a large PSU construction with a lot of outputs, so really has to be repaired or scrapped - retrofitting a modern one is not really viable.

I have included whats available in the service manual - no schematics, but it can clearly be seen these are the mains switching transistors as per usual in an SMPS.
(Q101 / Q102)

2SC2937 datasheet here:

Cheers.

Ah, don't know why I didn't find the BUV48A.

This is the second time I have tried to find similar transistors, the first time was another old Yamaha SMPS in a keyboard, but lower power.
I did find the BU508A but after asking here it was considered unsuitable, as its a video device and some parameters would not work well in SMPS.

But yes, the elusive BUV48A seems to be a likely candidate,  thanks!
