Clare V142

I think I need to get over to TEA and make a post soon.

After a bit of a sober eBay session the other week I have a few standards to use for general checking. One of the items is these Clare V142 (V.142) units that were used to test Clare Flash Testers.

I am looking for opinions for a way to clean up the brass connectors, I am tempted to remove them so that I can give them a damned good clean.

A quick google suggested vinegar and some salt and let it soak for a few mins.

So using an old spray can cap I first washed them in some Swarfega (Orange) hand degreaser, engineers will know the stuff.


Then I mixed some salt in with the white vinegar I had. I left that while I made a cup of tea.

Scary, it goes black and a quick rub with a nail brush and water and it looked dull.

But with a very quick brush of a copper brush, it came up shiny. Now going to attack the rest of it.

Put a little Vaseline on the threads, it will prevent corrosion, improve conductivity, make them a lot smoother, and prevent then from binding over time.
