7603 Scope Total Failure
« on: July 10, 2015, 07:41:08 pm »
One of my scopes just thought it would be the nicest thing to commit suicide.

It started with a bit of odd flickering, then total loss of vertical control, then the horizontal, then everything flickered and went dark. :-BROKE

With a bit of wire wiggling I managed to start it two or three times, until I thought "she'll be right" and put it back together. Died again...with no smoke or sparks, just won't turn on. Luckily, every single semiconductor (except maybe a few heatsinked FETS) is socketed.

Upon inspection there are casualties, and a zapping noise. An evil...EVIL...little $0.02 2N5551 thought it was totally hilarious to short out in the circuit of a $6.67 U.S. dollars 2N5859 (causing more poppage). IDK how much else is blown, still checking parts. I'll have to take it entirely apart to get to the rectifier board. But what are the chances the blowout was contained in the PSU? And what was that zap, an arc over or a semiconductor burnout?
*BZZZZZZAAAAAP*
