Adhesives for plastic (like Ipod)
« on: February 18, 2015, 06:36:00 pm »
Ok.  I have replaced my iPod 2nd gen battery and was wondering what people use as a replacement adhesive for plastic parts.

For example, the white plastic ends of the iPod mini mate against two metal plates.  There is an adhesive that can be rubbed off with one's thumb (it balls up).  Sort of gummy, like rubber cement.

What are you guys using in this situation as a replacement?

Chinglish poetry: In the hot summer. In the car ran full steam. It tastes strange. For this worry? With this fan will bring you a cool summer. Suitable for all kinds of cars. Agricultural vehicles. Van. Tricycle.

I did an EBAY search for iPhone repair tape.  There's a lot to choose from.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xiphone+repair+tape.TRS0&_nkw=iphone+repair+tape&_sacat=0
That black tape is weak. Quiet often parts come off after some time. Sekisui tape is much stronger. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=iphone+repair+tape&_from=R40&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xsekisui.TRS0&_nkw=sekisui&_sacat=0
Don't bother about it being advertised as thermal conductive tape by many sellers, it's not according to the datasheet.

I have used the 3m black tape before with varying results.
This actually looks more like a liquid that is smeared onto the part and dries but remains tacky and rubbery.  I do not think it is a tape at all.
Thanks for the suggestions, though

I build covert surveillance cameras and for holding the camera window in place I use Bron Killer Red doublesided tape. It is very thin, holds the wondow on the box during summer and winter without fail. It just needs to be applied to  a smooth surface as it has no thickness. The window is very hard to remove and I'd bet it will do the job on the ipod maybe too well.
