Title: Advice - Repair a Z-Wave Controller LCD Display
Post by: xrunner on March 08, 2017, 02:20:51 pm
Can this LCD be fixed? I believe the cable is not making contact properly. I am not familiar with the way this flex cable is attached. I know about zebra strips but this seems to be glued on - I don't know. Any possibility of fixing it?

Thanks.

This failure mode is quite common for this type of connection: When moisture gets in, the glue fails.
Repairing is possible, but if it is not done correctly, it will not last long:
You need to heat up the connection while applying pressure to the connection and let it cool down while holding the pressure.

It can be done using a soldering iron set to a low temperature. It is not the correct way, but often works.

Interesting. OK, do you happen to know what temp to use? My Hakko can go down to 200 C.
