The use of IKEA non-slip mats in laptop repair?
« on: February 08, 2020, 06:01:53 pm »
Many years ago I had a MacBook that developed a graphics fault.  The fault turned out to be pretty common.  For quite a long time Apple pushed back on any suggestions that it was a design flaw, but eventually relented and offered a programme of free repairs.  I had my laptop repaired by Apple under the programme.

Now, many years later, I finally got round to taking the laptop apart.  I thought you lot might enjoy what I found.

Is that an IKEA non-slip mat?:-DD  (I’m guessing used to shim the GPU against the laptop case to reduce the chances of a recurrence.)

Definitely looks like it's for shimming... but you'd think they'd use something with lower thermal resistance.

It could be some less-usual material, and I assume it's at least not Ikea brand, but it does seem like a pretty low-budget fix...
