Agilent 54622A "That key is not implemented yet"
« on: March 01, 2020, 10:53:57 pm »
Hi, everyone! This is my first post in this blog, I hope you can help me in this opportunity and I hope to help someone in the future.
Ok, the problem it's just in the subject... A friend gave me an Agilent 54622A that had the front softkey destroyed and the battery dead, but when I replace both the oscilloscope tells me the message  "That key is not implemented yet" when I press some of the softkeys (I'm talking about the six key under the screen), only one works.  Does someone know what is the problem here?

Just as a guess, considering that the keyboard was "destroyed" I'd say that it's possible that the keys are being electronically mapped (row and column) to a non-existant key. The scan generating circuit (usually drives the rows) and/or the column detecting circuits could also be damaged and causing the scope to detect an in-correct key.

If the scope IS detecting the proper key but the scope's SW is messed up and thinks that there is no longer a function assigned to that key then evidently the scope SW is bad and the ROMs(?) will have to be replaced or reprogrammed.

Is it possible that someone has worked on the scope and installed the wrong ROMs or the wrong keyboard interface?

Before doing anything else, try a simple reset:

"To reset the entire oscilloscope, press and hold any softkey and switch the oscilloscope power on. Release the softkey when the display appears"
(taken from an Agilent service manual).

A reset will not do any harm and can, occasionally, resolve oddball problems with 546xxx series oscilloscopes.

I already tried doing the magic reset but nothing happens... :'(

Interesting... I don't know if someone worked on the scope previously, but it is possible... How or where I can find the original ROM program and how can I reprogram It?

Were the softkeys destroyed by the battery acid?
Can you provide more details? If the keys were destroyed and they are not behaving, why do you think is a problem with the rom?
I couldn't find an schematic, but to get you started you should do a continuity check between all pads and their tracks, the associated diodes, and some systems use resistors as a voltage divider, so check around those too.

What do you mean, the softkeys were "destroyed"?  Picture?

The problem is very likely with what was damaged, rather than the ROM.

The rubber buttons were missed, the PCB was drilled (I presume someone tried to secure the board to the front panel with screws) |O, some tracks are cut and have corrosion. I made a "test keyboard" with tactile switches, and test it on a 54601A and works fine.

I couldn't find the schematic but the keypad circuit has a resistor array, I think that it's used as a divider, I'm going to study the circuit a little more.
