Agilent/Keysight DSOX2022A won't boot!

Hi All,

A friend of mine brought me his Agilent DSOX2022A that won't boot. I have the same scope, I guess that's why he brought it to me, but I have the most recent firmware, his is from 2012.

Anyway, what happens is: it turns on, shows the boot screen, cycles the lights on the control panel, and repeats infinitely. I've tried leaving the scope on for an hour, nothing; I've looked at the service manual, and tried everything I could short of opening it up. Opening it isn't a problem, I just don't have a clue where to start or know what to look for.

I contacted Keysight a few days ago, and all they'll say is that it needs to be returned to them. No troubleshooting advice.  :-\ Unfortunately the warranty expired in June, so the owner doesn't want to return it to Keysight.

If you search for this rather long tread https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/dsox2000-and-3000-series-licence-have-anyone-tried-to-hack-that-scope/ you will find that it is possible to boot this scope from a USB drive (given firmvare <2.36) and then try a firmware upgrade. Try the 2000XSeries.02.35.2013061800.cab first. The 2.35 version firmware is the newest that supports USB boot.

Did this just happen out of the blue? Or was he trying to do a firmware upgrade at the time?

As far as I know, it happened out of the blue. He told me he bought the scope nearly three years ago and hasn't tried to update the firmware since. I'll double check @ work tomorrow.
