Anker PowerCore 5000 - Resoldering the USB socket
« on: June 01, 2022, 08:17:40 am »
My favourite USB power bank Anker PowerCore 5000 (the small sturdy cylinder) had a loose contact at the USB output after a few years of continuous use.
To open the device, you have to remove the cover of the USB ports, which is only fixed with double-sided adhesive. Remove the three screws, then the inside can be pushed out downwards. As suspected, the solder connection of the 5V contact of the socket had come loose; the others didn't look very trustworthy either. After I re-soldered all four pins (with leaded solder), it has been working without any problems ever since.
