ANRITSU 37347C VNA Resurrection
« on: December 16, 2024, 08:22:08 pm »
I have a classic ANRITSU VNA with 2 faults while booting:
1) Keyboard Controller Failure:
This devices from panel keyboard seems to work up to the point of the error. There is a hard drive restore feature that responds to the front panel, so I feel that is not the keyboard at fault.

The VNA has an AT-Style DIN plug for using a classic IBM 101-Key Keyboard. I have one of those keyboard. The keyboard resets as expected when plugging in, but the fault remains.

2) Fails to Set Date and Time
There is a yellow Real Time Clock chip/clock/battery combo/module on the main board. The original was indeed dead. Digikey sells replacements. That replacement did not resolve the date and time fault.

The first thing done was to check all the power supply rails for potential and ripple. All is good there.

Anyone have one of these sweet devices and have ideas for next-steps?

Thank You!

It probably lost the boot parameters when the NVRAM went flat. This renders the equipment useless unless you are able to recover it (after replacing the battery).

There is another post about how to do this.

Yeah. I have seen posts about recovering other models of this instrument. Never this particular model.

Seems I need a reference image of the BBRAM/NVRAM from a known good 36347C, and then a programmer to write to this version of BBRAM surface mounted chip. I can likely install the surface mounted chip on a surf board or other to get on the programmer.

I will now go seek any details I can find on recovering this unit. Google didn't have much luck.
