| APC BR1500 Smart Ups RS 1500 Repair: Starts up, then ends in Overload |

| MrCreosote:
First, mine looks identical to this one: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/apc-smart-ups-sc1500-service-manual/ When turned on: * On-Line: flashes green for about 5 seconds * On-Battery: spikes yellow for a split second * Overload: lights continuously red & buzzer constant I've looked over the board while still connected in case and found nothing physical. Need to disconnect and remove board for better look. The fact that it goes thru the startup sequence leads me to think it may be a simple repair. There more to the history of this UPS: A few years ago, I decommissioned when I measure 135v while On-Battery. May have been a non-True RMS DMM, which means the 135v is a low reading. This alone might be reason enough to trash this unit, but I really don't know what to expect from a modified sine wave. Mains here are 125v now and probably >120v back then. It's also disturbing that sitting on the shelf, it appears to have developed new malfunctions. The link to the other unit mention the MOSFET's which might make sense. The fact that it instantly drops out of On-Battery while not showing Replace Battery suggests the inverter is not working? Could the high voltage On Battery have blown the MOSFET's? I've done simple electronic repair and can deal with transistors, SCR's, etc. but when it comes to logic chips, no experience - so it will probably take me a long time to do this repair. ...and then there's the need for a schematic that may or may not help me either. Thanks Tom Tried to attach a pic, but it keeps truncating to a square aspect ratio. |
