apollo twin x short circuit
« on: August 08, 2023, 01:40:31 pm »
I received a broken apollo twin x for possible repair and quickly found the device shorted at the 12V input socket.
Investigation shows that a component (see image) connecting 12V and GND is shorted. I assume this to be an input protection device but can't find any info about it. Does anybody know, what this is?

It appears to be an SMAJ14A unidirectional TVS diode made by Vishay (General Semiconductor).

That's indeed the most probable and I ordered this one now. I assume though, it's some kind of Chinese clone, since the marking doesn't fit.

It's kinda the same ...

The logo belongs to General Semiconductor which was acquired by Vishay.

BTW, it's unidirectional, not bidirectional as I originally wrote.

What part of the marking seems wrong to you?
The part number code "XK" is exactly what the datasheet specifies, and the logo seems fine as well.

You're right. I looked at the SMC package version, which has a different marking.
