Are Dallas DS1250 and DS1650 interchangeable in Tektronix Scopes?

Dear all,
I have just seen a video on YouTube where the person says that it is possible to interchange Dallas DS1250 and DS1650 in all Tektronix scopes, since it seems that the protected area is not used by any of the Tek scopes firmware.
I have a bunch of DS1650 Srams in my parts bin.
Assuming that they are not fake, i might save me some money and the trouble of buying (or building myself) a DS1250 replacement.
Can anyone comment on that?

They are pin compatible and replaced each others elsewhere.

Why didn't you try them?
