JBC DM-2B EEPROM issue fix
« on: April 01, 2024, 12:02:31 pm »
Hi there. I just wanted to share my experience with a JBC DM-2B soldering station I had.
I ordered this 4-tool station secondhand. Everything worked fine, but I found that when I changed the iron temperature and turned the station off, and then on, it starts at 400C degree. This is not a normal condition of all JBC stations I have/had, so I thought there is an issue.

I sent a mail to JBC, but based on my experience, no support from them. They told me it was an obsolete station, and they didn't have spare parts. No answer when I asked for the EEPROM BIN file. I've asked a few times for technical support from them without luck! I needed to cope by myself.

As usual, I opened it. The processor is a PIC micro, and there is an EEPROM. In this case, it's 24C16. I removed it, read it, saved the BIN file, and tried to change some bits on the original EEPROM. Unfortunately, the programmer returned errors. Then I got a new one, programmed it with the downloaded BIN file, and soldered on the PCB. With the new chip, everything works perfectly now!

Just wanted to share my experience here, providing the BIN file + a photo with the EEPROM.
Hopefully, this topic could help someone else with the same issue in the future.
