IGBT Replacement For Treadmill Motor Driver Help!
« on: November 01, 2020, 04:11:17 am »
I have a MC2100ELS-18W motor controller and after inspection found that the IGBT is shorted, the part number is IRGPC40K

I suppose this is a discontinued part and I do not want to buy from China and want to find a replacement
I have no experience when it comes to IGBT and I am not sure about all the important specs to look for
I have been able to specify a replacement and I want some advice if it is suitable or not
AOK30B60D1
and
AOK40B65H2AL
I was looking for the following:
Vce, Vge, Ic, Pd, Input Capacitance, Gate Charge, Turn-On DelayTime, Turn-Off Delay Time

I am really not sure if I should look for something else or not and whether if those specs should be exactly the same or not, some of them are a little bit higher like power ratings and voltages and other are lower like Charges, Capacitance and Delay times

One thing that I am not sure if it will change anything or not that the old part has no diode integrated and the new replacement has integrated one and I suppose that diode specs should also be respected !

This Controller is using IR2127 IGBT Driver and the motor is rated for 130V DC and 2.75KW continues Duty
if what I have wrote doesn't make sense for you or you think there is something wrong, please correct me, I am still beginner and what I know probably less than what you know

I'm also far from an expert and that power must be respected but...

There used to be a time when few wheels and few hps were not stopping anybody.
And BTW, what's your motto.
(actually bump)

I can't think that possibly two protection diodes are worse than one.

Can you test the motor unloaded?

Take your pick from anyone of them.

This looks like a reasonably decent almost drop in replacement.

The criteria you have chosen are mostly correct. You  need to see for Vce > Ic > Qg > Input Capacitance > Everything else...

And as far I am aware ( I could be wrong ) all the IGBTs come with the body diode. The body diode will generally be specced to the transistors spec. You
dont have to worry about anything specific for the body diode in the replacement.

If god made us in his image,
and we are this stupid
then....

I believe when you replace a IGBT, most values could be higher and probably its better, but if the Gate Threshold Voltage Vge(th) was higher, there is a possibility that a new transistor with a higher Vge never conducts in the old circuit.
