Battery replacement HP 8901B
« on: December 09, 2022, 01:38:14 pm »
The 2.8v battery in the HP 8901B is said to be, “Non Volatile Memory” it is a 4331DE number battery.
Question is can I replace without jumping in a power source and just remove old and replace with new?

I'm pretty sure that there is nothing held in RAM that relates to calibration data (i.e. the RAM is just working memory) - The service manual doesn't mention anything more than just disposing of the battery correctly - I've had my 8901 for almost a decade and haven't experienced any issue with the battery (it is only used I believe when the power drops to the unit).

I did a couple of repair videos on the 8901B, I have included them below in case they are of help to you, I don't think I showed the battery replacement in them though.
