HP5335A No input error 7
« on: April 09, 2018, 11:35:51 am »
Picked up a HP5335A Saturday and after a few quick tests I notice I am not getting a signal through the A or B inputs.

Before opening this unit I wonder if anyone has experience in 5335A not recognizing input to A or B.

Passes start-up self test.
Running Special Diagnostic returns  Error 7.

Unit has Options 010 High Stability and 030 C Channel input.
Channel C works fine.
10Mhz signal on back panel outputs 10Mhz.

Thanks

Error 7.0 has something to do with self testing routines, and indicates a missing cable from rear oscillator output to Input.
Please check, whether the rear EXT ARM switches are both set to zero.

The input amplifier and trigger circuit seems to work, as the trigger LED is lit.
What about the Gate LED?

To try measuring using the B input you have to select the B input;   press: Scale, Smooth, 17, ENTER
Feed it the 10Mhz reference from the back and it should display 10.000.000 with the Gate control mostly counter clockwise

If three 100  Ohm resistors are connected in parallel, and in series with a 200 Ohm resistor, how many resistors do you have?

OK,
So I take off case top, remove cables going from input board to mainboard, check for signal.
A and B have signal to mainboard, Good.

Put connector back on and tighten, now I have both channels working.
Loose connector!

Yes...
