Goalzero Sherpa 50 Repair
« on: May 17, 2022, 08:38:13 pm »
Does anyone know who makes the part labeled as U2 in the photo and what it does?  I've been unable to deduce the OEM and device type from the part marking.

That's Microchip's logo.

Could it be a custom programmed PIC microcontroller? Can you discern any YWW/YYWW (Year/Week) date codes from the other ICs? That would help to exclude the date codes from the part markings (eg week 19 of 2013, week 14 of 2014).

Thanks for the quick reply.  I also thought it was Microchip.  While the logo is similar it doesn't match Microchip's logo.  The angles within the IC logo are different compared to Microchip plus the IC marking doesn't have any sharp corners like Microchip's logo.   I've attached a photo of a Microchip part.  The only product Microchip shows on their website with 1414 in its part number is EMC1414 which is a 10 pin device.

Can you provide a full photo of the PCB so that we can see the component in context?

Can you identify the ground and Vcc pins?

Thanks for helping me pursue this matter.  U2 pins 1 and 3 measured 9.9VDC with 10.2VDC applied to the wires that lead from the battery pack.  An LM35L is nearby U2 and it measured 10.2 on pin 8.  U2 pins 10, 11, and 15 are at ground potential.  Attached is a photo of the board.
