Can I fix the hotbar ribbon on my clie's LCD?
« on: July 26, 2020, 09:21:44 pm »
I have had this old Sony clie sitting in my collection for a while, powered it on once, saw it didn't work and never touched it again. Now I'm bored and have already messed with everything i can mess with. Is there a way to repair the (hotbar I think) ribbon connection on the LCD screen? It's really tiny but I am up for anything, and there's nothing to lose since the screen is useless either way, I would just like to get it working. Google photos album is linked below:

try poking it with a stick  :-DD
I mean literally take a toothpick and press on the ribbon very delicately while moving along its length while watching if anything changes on the screen

I tried that, there are some points where some of the vertical lines will fill in, and if I press with my finger across a certain area, the lines on the screen go away. Would it be at least semi permanent to just put something in the frame of the screen to press the ribbon down?

depends what you are pressing, ribbon or the COF chip (chip on flex), or is that COG (chip on glass)?
if ribbon you can try soldering it back, Dave did a video on this, so did FFcossag

I wouldnt try soldering the chip, but paper shims could work as a half assed solution
