Can I get a one-off PCB made cheaply?
« on: January 23, 2019, 04:37:59 pm »
I've been working on a wine cooler for a couple of months now taking off components and putting them back on. So the pads and traces have taken a beating. Is there any one out there who makes replacement boards cheap enough for the hobbyists? I have searched Google, but haven't found such a source so far. Thank you.

It's not a pretty fix but where a lead goes through a hole with a lifted pad, instead of cutting the lead short you could scrape the resist off the run and bend the long lead to lay on top of the run. Then run solder along the length of the lead from where it comes through the pad to the end of the lead. If an entire run has lifted you can use an insulated wire jumper to replace the run. I've had to do this a few times. I don't think getting another circuit board made is realistic but perhaps finding another used replacement board is a slight possibility.

Also, if the PCB isn't too complex, you could try reverse-engineering it, draw a schematic and trace a PCB yourself. Then order it from some cheap prototyping PCB house like JLCPCB, PCBWay or many others, look them up. Or try etching one yourself if you're up to a weekend challenge.
That way you would have some spare boards already made for future problems or anyone else with the same problem could get your PCBs.

This. Also don't forget to share the results on the Internet with us. :)
