Can you identify this connector?
« on: July 18, 2021, 11:28:40 pm »
Hi:

So I decided to replace the cooling fan in my LTO-2 tape drive.

On opening it, I noticed this connector attached to the PSU
which then mates with another connector attached to the
cooling fan. Can anyone tell me the name of this connector
so I can buy its mate?

This looks like Molex Microfit. There a few variants with different sizes, but it should be easy to find by that name.

I think this is your connector: https://www.mouser.com/new/molex/molex-micro-fit-tpa-connectors/

Thank you very much. That's so helpful.

Finally, I'll be able to do tape backups without
the deafening noise.

How do you fasten that connector to the wires?
Is it crimped on? Soldered on ?

That could be a mini fit JR miles series.  Check the pin pitch (3mm vs 4.2mm).

Crimp tools are expensive, you could just buy the board mount option and solder wires onto the pins (or solder wires onto the crimps)... Depends on the gender.

Ah, thank you. Looks like it's time to call Digikey.

You can solder it too in a pinch. It is not designed for it, but it works if you only need a few.

How do I check the pin pitch? I don't even know that pin pitch is.

I have limited tools as I don't repair electronics.

Measure approximate distance between the pins. And overall connector size.
