| car radio bulbs no longer working |
| (1/1) |
| BillStrachan:
i have a radio from a 06 silverado and i soldered in new led bulbs into the display and they shorted out when i plugged the radio back in. everything still functions but the lights are all out. i found that one of the bulb pins was protruding too far past the board and touched a backing plate which i believe grounded out causing all the bulbs to no longer turn on. i took apart the radio again and the bulbs still work when i put 12 volts to the display board separately. so something on the board got damaged and im curious if i can replace a component on the board rather than order a whole new used radio off ebay. i dont exactly know what to look for but i havent seen any burnt components on the board. |

First check for blown fuse/s in vehicle if not any and problem is on main PCB track backwards from where you shorted it. Look for open resistors/ transistors/ regulator IC's or what you could have damaged. Jeff |

Don't know about this radio, but in some the lights are on a different circuit than the radio itself. So the radio may play with the lights out due to a car level fuse. |

Back in the day the lights in a radio only came on when the lights of the car itself where on (dim or high beam). There was a separate wire for this. |

Did you put resistors in series with the LEDs? |
