Solar chargeable LED light for keychain stopped working, while similar one still works. Construction is identical in both with the same case*, PCB* and solar cell. 1st unit charges in the sun, while 2nd unit is dead because it uses non-rechargeable battery, has no diode installed and solar cell is not connected.
Repair is easy, though.
These LED lights seem to be marketplace special - functionality depends on the cheapest components available that week. Did rechargeable batteries run out? Place non-chargeable ones instead and remove (i.e. save few cents) diode and few connecting wires while you're at it. LED light still kinda works on coin cell. There is no obvious way to test if solar cell is connected.
Overall, these cheap mini LED lights are acceptable if solar cell works and you can get them for low price. Otherwise get something better.
* - cases and PCBs have minor differences
