Cheap chinise buck converter power supply odd failure
« on: October 01, 2020, 08:20:12 pm »
Hello guys, i have bought cheap buck converter cc cv module. It failed on me after a couple.of short circuit tests. It came out to be choke short. I fixed it. For temporary use i fited irf50n06 transistors, the power supply was fine and managed to withstand many short circuit tests. So i decided to put very good, low rdson transistors irfb3077. The first short circuit test and the main buck converter chip blown xl7005, should i try fixing it again? Or is this module is just crappy design? It says it has over current protection.

Did you remove that capacitor on the left side?

They say it has overcurrent protection but they don't specifically mention output short circuit protection. Its possible if its using software control to limit the current, a short could still cause damage, vs a slight overcurrent condition.
