Conversion Tektronix 754D to 784D, Revision 4 acq board
« on: June 08, 2020, 07:02:57 pm »
Well, I wanted to do this for a long time. My Tektronix 754D has the newer acquisition board. Serial number B040130. The big 5 chips with heatsinks near the attenuators’ metal housing was combined into 1 chip.

For 754D -> 784D
R1061 R1062 R1063 R1064 is the order.
1 = INSTALLED
0 = Not Installed
0001: TDS784D (Remove all resistors and populate the R1064 with a 0 ohm resistor or short the pads)
1110: TDS754D (populate the R1061 R1062 R1063 with a 0 ohm resistor or short the pads AND leave the R1064 pad open/unsoldered)
Remove Capacitors: These are all close to the attenuators' metal housing.
C784
C783
C782
C781
Also, you must run the SPC to remove any DC offsets/noise. See pictures for more details.

I also upgrade my Firmware from 7.1.1e to 7.4e using this software along with Agilent 82357B
Thankfully, no recalibration required:

my converted TDS784D has also this board.  This newer board with BGA-IC requiered  Firmware 7.xx.
A big plus-point:  this board  doesn't run hot.  It stays  cool.

I have shooting  two pictures from old and new board., see it at  TDS754D pictures.

This link has a trap for  auto-url-pasting. (manually copy with URL-Tag )

A notice:   getting of 1 Ghz Bandwidth requires   recalibration with Tektronix Field Adjustment Software.  It is a  pure toture. (500Mhz Typ calibration is OKAY, but  1Ghz... )

Greetings

.... re-calibration with Tektronix Field Adjustment Software.  It is a  pure torture.
I have had the 'pleasure' of doing this, fortunately only 2 or 3 times.
Last time was when I repaired a TDS754D and converted it to a 784D.
Wasn't this banned by the Geneva Convention as inhumane treatment of engineers? ;D

Any one know what the difference between Firmware V7.1.1e and V7.4e is?
