CORDLESS VACUUM POWER FAULT
« on: January 18, 2024, 11:19:18 pm »
Hi all !
New to the forum, very amateur and don't know any electronics experts personally so I need your help please....
Several years ago my wife bought a GTECH K9 Multi, cordless vacuum cleaner (type AR2, model AR30) that very quickly failed - on pressing the "go" switch the led light strip illuminates for a millisecond then the 4 battery indicator lights all blink red simultaneously 10 times then reset. There is no sound and motor doesn't turn. GTECH kindly provided a new base unit (less filter box and battery) without quibble, which has worked very well (and hard) but is now getting tired (on/off switch needs replacing and wheels are falling off) !
So I am trying to resurrect the original base unit which, if we can fix the fault, is as good as new !?
The battery charges and works fine in the (ageing) working unit (4 green lights) so I presume it is OK ?
By my untrained eye it looks like the .1uA capacitor wired across the back of the motor may have blown - no continuity across it while still soldered in situ, but there is on my older working unit ?! Not sure if this is a valid test ?
Would this cause my fault ? Can I bridge it to test if power would then get to the motor ?
Hoping someone has come across this fault before - help to fix would be most welcome.
