The current limit on my HP 6673A PSU activates with a few second delay.
The PSU allows drawing higher current than the programmed current limit
for about 5s and then switches to constant current mode with the correct
current limit value.

Is this normal on this type of PSU?

my  6653A  (35V 15A), is very fast in regulation and change from CV (constant voltage) to CC (constant current)   (less than one 1ms )

I think: it is not OK.

greetings

Thank you for your reply but the 6673A is probably different than the 6653A in the way CC mode
control circuit works. The time constant of the CC mode control circuit is much longer in 6673A.

It looks like switching to CC mode is supposed to take that long and the PSU allows for for the output
current to exceed the programmed current limit for some time. The smaller the output current
'overshot' the longer the time for CC mode to kick in.

Can someone who has the 6673A power supply confirm this please?

I know this is a bit late, but yeah it works the same in our unit too. I was also worried about this. Another thing to maybe look out for is oxidation of the spade connectors, near the current shunt, which resulted in unreliable current measurements in our case.
