« on: January 17, 2022, 06:42:54 pm »
If this was already sicussed, sorry, I have not seen it!

I got two SATO thermal transfer printers, I want to set'em up for selling, and notice this, both are SATO M-84Pro same printer difrent NVRAM, one has a dallas chip and the other has an EEPROM, guess it might be the same for the oscilloscopes!!! right???

Only the Dallas chip has a built in real time clock (RTC).
So if that is not used then yes a regular SRAM can be an option.
But then it is extremely strange why they would not just have used that for all units from the beginning.
Because the Dallas chip is allot more expensive...

Late edit: the other chip is not a SRAM but EEPROM and they require a very different process to write to.
This is probably a very niche application that allowed one to substitute the other...
