Dataman-48LV missing U51
« on: January 24, 2025, 10:06:12 pm »
Evening,

Can any one help me with this Dataman-48LV, Bought this item from EBAY this week, had a old PC with printer port thought would be easy fix or plug and use.
Thought wrong, first fails self test PIN 1 set low  PIN 1 is high.
Stripped unit down and i can see that U51 should have an IC in it and it seems to be missing.
Has any one down loaded the program for this device, think its a 18cv8 PLD.

Cheer's

Have you asked Dataman themselves? THey have been massively helpful to me so far on adding devices and general support.

yep

you have at least 2 models on lpt  the 48 and 48 lv   and one in usb   48uxp   if i recall
they had an upgrade option for the LV   low voltage,  it was simply a matter of changing  one of the 2  pcb inside it

and finding parts outside are ....     even defectives  theses units are sold way to pricey     you have to search   all models and odm one   hoping to catch one

in the end   some good alternatives exists   xgecu t48 t56  or the new t76   do a lot more,  or many like mcumall g-q4x   genius xxx  top xxx  models     unless you go  with the biggers ones like elnec beeprog, xeltec 5000 6000 ....series   etc ....  then TNM 5000 was doing all of theses dataman,   TNM7000 more stuff   prices ...

if Dataman can salvage  some parts or old board ?  you never know
the last free version  was 8.32    you have version 10.xx   but a 2 year licence need to be paid  for more parts support

According to the LV upgrade pdf on the Dataman site, you also have to change the PROM on the mainboard with the one supplied with the upgrade kit - so the PROM installed in the LV programmer needs to follow the top board wherever it ends up. I'm not sure what happens if you move it to a UXP variant as that has a different mainboard.

Hi,

Actually the developer is Advantech Equipment (AEC).
All others are ODM.
The whole update process is described in detail.

Was able to obtain a second unit with U51 in place, going to try making one unit out of two.
Will let you know if it works out.

Thanks for the info, second unit just arrived not USB, quick test of the unit showed faults, used top board from the first unit I had bought, unit now working passes self test can read gal22v10, program 27c128and other devices.
Dataman program reports 2.2 firmware.
Think I am up and running.

I have this programmer from many years ago
The peel chip can get damaged easily
Mine died and I ended up buying the upgrade kit ( which is just the bottom board)
From dataman ( was around £400 at the time) which fixed mine
I now also have the uxp48 version too which is a lot faster being usb
The 48lv is just sat on the shelf but still a very good programmer

Be careful of China copies
Some are bad some not too bad
As mentioned my first 48lv was a China copy
Which died, but the dataman bottom board upgrade worked fine ( luckily the connectors were the same )
Which changed it from 48lv to 48xp
I think I still have the peel chip (gal18v10B) data file somewhere

Evening,
Just replaced all the 10 reed relays, had a problem with self test failing, random pins failed.
Re solder some joints, think it has done the trick.
