Delta ADP-185bf power supply
« on: May 09, 2022, 01:25:12 pm »
Hi All,

i am a Mac repair guy, so i have a bunch of this 185W 12V power from IMAC that went bad from customers, I'm trying to repair these PS so that i can reuse them for other projects.
Please Note that i'm good in dc electronics but not so in AC. watching several videos on how SMPS work and roughly get the idea which are the main components but still blur in most of other stuff

I have roughly diagnosed the PS and found that the MOSFET(IPA60R199CP) blew and it took out together the Diode(S8JC Liteon) and the fuse. i got them all replaced and tested output, everything good so far, i get 12V at the output.
Issue is when i connect the PS to a DC Electronic load, i'm only able to get as far as 12V 7A(84W) before the MOSFET blows again.
I realised that the coil and Diode that i replaced is getting warm @60C even at 12W load.

I have several known good PS that i can use to swap parts around to confirm which the culprit is.
this PS uses a NCP1605 for pf correction and L6599AD PWM controllers. in order to find out which is the bad component, I have tried replacing above mentioned parts + full bridge rectifier + Highside smoothing capacitor(measured at 380V underload and tested no issues).

Icing on the cake is that there is no schematic for this PS.

the tracing i found so far bridge rectifier -> coil -> diode -> capacitor(rated 450v 68uf) in parallel goes to NCP1605 and source of IPA60R199CP.
So i need guidance or indication where should i look into that is causing this issue.
