DER EE DE-5000 LCR meter - damaged
« on: September 14, 2016, 04:51:08 pm »
I have a  DER EE DE-5000 LCR meter, which was damaged by a  high voltage ( about 220V).
As you can see, from a picture, there are some burnt items( resistors) by  that high voltage .
Does anyone know what values are those burnt resistors?
Besides   DE-5000 LCR can not be turned on now.
Is there any schematic of DER EE DE-5000 available?
Has anyone tried to repair that kind of LCR meter successfully?
Thank you for your feedback

Hopefully the damage is limited to components peripheral to the IC.  Given what I can read from the photograph, even high value resistors fried.  Yikes.

This is such a sweet meter.

I will open mine up (very carefully) tomorrow and get some photos for you.

Never saw a schematic for it, but perhaps the folks in Japan who sell it can help you.

Not sure if it's the pictures, but sadly it looks like IC DM 5000-2C has a crack in it and released the magic smoke.

It does look like there is a crack in it - right in the spot you'd expect it to be based on where the burnt parts are.

Forget it, the chip is 100% dead.

If the picture is good, I see two cracks, one below the 5000, and another line one the left side.

So the chip has release the magic smoke.

I checked under microscope and unfortunately that IC is really cracked. Is there any possibility to buy that IC anywhere?
(I think it should be ES51920 by Cyrustek)
Thank you for suggestions

The 0805 resistors are all 1.0K.  The 0603 resistors to the right are 100.0 and 1.0K (left to right order).  See photo.

Good luck!

@k1mgy: Thank you very much for sending those resistors values
Unfortunately that DM5000-2C-02( should be ES51920 by Cyrustek) is also cracked. Do you happen to know where it can be bought?

No, sorry.  You might check with the manufacturer.

However I suspect if this is replaced it will need recalibration.

The IC is supposed to be a Cyrustek ES51920 (?), which is part of the LCR meter chipset.
Given the price of the DER EE5000, I think you better buy a new LCR meter.
The DER EE5000 definitely is not good for in-circuit measurements.

Whether you're testing components in or out of circuit with the DER EE DE-5000, capacitors must be discharged first as there's no protections for the meter if you don't.

try to ask for a sample of each at cyrustek sales representatives.
they sended one chip to a member of this forum that had the chip burned like you.
worth a try, otherwise these chips are not for public sales, you will have to buy another dm5000
(or a protected esr meter for live measurments !)
