DSO-X 3024A - repair worthy or not?
« on: December 10, 2021, 03:40:34 pm »
Hi

I found a scope on sale as non- working... seller claims on power on there is only a quick flash of the screen....and then nothing...

He did say he saw only one visible sign of damage on the board, on U3602 - but in the other photo it looks like some oxidation on the USB port etc?

Can anyone identify it for me hard to make out on the photo?

Can anyone advise,  is it worth buying for $450 as a repair project?

thanks

Looks like failure is a consequence of liquid damage. Still IMHO a good deal if you know what you are doing. If you never repaired liquid damaged stuff, or don't have much of repair experience, then staying off it may be a wiser decision.

Difficult to decide ... the exploded chip is a LT3580 (DCDC Converter). Regarding the liquid signs on the power supply PCB I would assume that the liquid leaked into the power supply and the chip was destroyed by overvoltage. The risk is high that many other components are also defective.
But $450 is good deal, I would give it a try as you would then still have some spare parts to sell.
