E.S.I 2150 Video Bridge power supply question.
« on: June 30, 2023, 02:44:33 pm »
Hi, Does anyone familiar with the E.S.I 2150/2160 series Video Bridge know if I can use a 2A 600 volt bridge rectifier on the power supply board in the place of the 1.5A 800 volt bridge called for on the parts list? The mains fuse is 2 amp slo blo, but the bridge is rated for 1.5 amps and shorted out. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I don't know this equipment.  Is the bridge rectifier on the input AC mains of a SMPS rated for 90-250 Volts input?  If yes  and it will only be connected to 110 Volt AC mains then yes a 600 Volt bridge rectifier will be OK.

But before fitting it you should be seeking the answer to the question of why is the existing one shot?

There were a couple of parts that had failed, a shorted horz. output transistor and a stud diode was open too. I have replaced both. The power supply is not a SMPS, it's the conventional type with two large size electro caps that are rated at 200v.

There's a 230V setting so it needs more than 600VAC.

But secondary faults shouldn't cook the rectifier.
Maybe it was just too old.

The schematic for the relevant part of the power input is at the top of page 246 of the pdf which can be downloaded at https://www.manualslib.com/download/2086388/Esi-Videobridge-2150.html.  The 110/230 Volt switch has no impact on what is applied to the bridge rectifier.  As I wrote above, if used only on 110 Volt input (the OP is in Canada) a 600 Volt bridge will be OK.  Fitting an 800 Volt bridge would be preferable but if that is not available a label should be applied stating that the unit should not be used on 230 Volt mains.

I have ordered some 2 amp 1000V, type 2W10 bridge rectifiers. I should be getting them soon and will get back to this post with the results. Thanks to those who have taken the time to give advice so far.
