Around 11pm last night had to set the media room up to show the Sydney midnight fireworks and the TEAC digital TV decoder was not powering on... Major family fail coming...
Had 60 minutes to effect a repair and managed to do so with 25 minutes to spare. Turns out a handful of elec caps had gone bad and bulged. Luckily I have a reasonable stock on hand. One even had blown its top, which was loose in the case, but no sign of electrolyte anywhere... Must have slowly baked itself to death.
I measured resistances around the power rails, all checked out, powered it up and it came back to life. Happy family!
