Epson EH-TW9000 Mainboard faulty
« on: March 30, 2019, 11:20:05 pm »
Having an Epson EH-TW9000W, 3 LCD Projector, with a defective Mainboard. Both LEDs (Lamp & Temp) are flashing red, which means "internal error" as described in the user's manual.

After turning on the blue standby led flashes, fans are starting, lamp strikes, lens cover opens.
After approx. 3-5 seconds lamp extinguish, lens cover closes, fans rotating at full speed and unit goes into error mode, fans continuing rotating at full speed until power off by main switch.

I swapped the Mainboard from a working PJ. All fans, other PCBs and optical unit are working excellent, so the issue is definitely on the mainboard. I checked the temperature with my thermal camera and found a very hot spot (80°C) at IC303 (Panasonic MN864773AKE). The Voltage on the linear regulator IC302 (NJM2884ADL3-33) dropped to 1V!
So, I unsoldered the IC303 with my rework station. Now, the voltage at the regulator is fine.
I changed IC303, 3,3V is OK(!) now, but the problem as described above is still the same.

Does anyone have a circuit diagram, service manual or an idea how to fix it?
The problem is definitely on the mainboard!
My E-Mail adress is: 0662(at)gmx.at

In advance, thank you so much for helping!!

I couldn't find a datasheet but there appear to be plenty of sellers carrying the MN864773AKE, which has a description of "HDMI receiver". Given that function and the fact that it's probably connected directly to the HDMI input, I'm not surprised that it's dead. You could try replacing it.

@amyk: Thank you for your reply. The HDMI controller is changed and new. The supply voltage of the chip is correct now. I spent many, many hours to compare a good and this faulty mainboard.
I need information regarding the LED error code to search the appropriate part . A service manual, the circuit diagram or a helpful hint will be the best.  ;)

Hello,

I have the same error. I took it also to Epson. The answer was "ROM ERROR. Mainboard faulty." It can't be repaired because the components are "end of life". A real disappointment.

Anyway, did you succeed to repair it?

Thank you.
