Hi! I had a problem with my ES121 motor. It was drawing well over half an amp with zero load (connected to a lab psu). I opened it up by bending the metal tabs on the side and inspected the commutator under a microscope. It turns out there was metal filings in the gaps of the commutator. I cleaned the contacts with a glass fiber brush and that solved the problem. I wanted to share this if others have the same problem :) |

I had the same issue. Cleaning the brushes inside the back of the motor solved it for me too. Thank you very very much TorP ! |

Thanks for the tip with the commutator! I have two ES120 and was able to get them to work again. I used an xacto knife and made a little video with my cheapo microscope. https://youtu.be/C6kh2OIFTGY |

I cleaned those commutator gaps as suggested, and removed quite a bit of the heavy grease in the gearbox, replacing it with light watch oil. This cured the "short-run" problem completely. Just take care when dis-assembling and re-assembling that everything goes back correctly and that there are no bits left over - it is very fiddly! Thanks for all the hints. |
