Exact Electronics Function Generator 506 schematics
« on: November 08, 2021, 08:34:57 am »
Hello
Does anyone happen to have the service manual or schematics for this old (1970's?) function generator?
(Exact Electronics Function Generator 506)

It's lighting up nicely, but the outputs are dead. When measuring the circuit I see the transformer working, but 0 volts on the pcb entry points labeled + and - 12. I unscrewed the big smoothing caps, and they also seem to be working fine - though their capacitance is larger than it says on the component (3900 instead of 2700 uF). I'm thinking maybe a burned out diode is shortening the regulated power outputs to ground?

Either way the schematics would be a huge help :)
Cheers
Klaus

alright - found the culprit: a darlington transistor connected to the negative power rail was broken - literaly. It was fastened to the back panel for cooling and the screw had been tightened too hard breaking the transistor in 3 parts.
replaced it and also some tantals that were busted and now it runs as if brand new.
put it to some good (and alternative) use here:
