Farnell l30 power supply capacitor replacement
« on: February 15, 2018, 03:51:07 pm »
Hi

I am new to electronics, and my first repair project is the above power supply.
It should go up to 30v, but when I powered it up, I was getting about 2.5v

Looking inside one of the large caps had burst. The part number is hunts 3132a hya.

The circuit diagram says this is a2200uf cap at 63 v. Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement? They are connected in parellel, about 40mm dia and, say 75mm long

Hope someone here can help, so I can have my first successful repair....... :phew:

If it is a power supply I think that any 2200uF @63V or more would do.
If there are several like it in parallel, I think that you can take it out and test the supply without it.
Probably at low loads the circuit will work ok without it as the other caps will still work and you only will see an overall lower total capacitance.
The faulty cap probably is draining the current, but who knows? Perhaps it is not the only faulty component.
As this is @63V I undestand that it is in the output side of the supply.
