Finding pots for Tektronix 2205 scope
« on: May 05, 2023, 06:43:51 pm »
I would like to replace the pots for the hor/ver position dials, and the other front panel pots. I cleaned them, and they "work" but the value of the pots moves pretty wildly just when barely touching the knob. I suspect the "springiness" of the contacts inside are losing their luster.

I have the values of the pots, there's only 2 unique ones, and I have the manufacture part number out of the service manual, but I have no idea how to find these. They obviously need to fit the pin layout AND for the knob to fit inside one. Any help would be appreciated:

Pot 1: PP1700HGA0A4110 (10K 0.2W)
Pot 2: PP17/000HFAQA234 (470 OHM, 0.2W)

They appear to be the same except for the value.

Looks like the datasheet for those can be found here:

https://www.datasheetarchive.com/pdf/download.php?id=d173222a191887dcc8af9091d0182e1d862f78&type=O&term=753504%252F02%252Fpp17

Made by Mepcopal.  Searching for that company only seems to turn up random vendors with some perhaps old stock parts and didn't find mfg website (but I did not search too hard).

You may need to dig through product offerings of mfg of pots looking to find something matching.

Another possibility is this place has them:

https://www.sphere.bc.ca/test/tekparts.html

Good luck.

EDIT:  I did find some reference to Mepcopal being acquired by BC Components and BC is now part of Vishay.  Mepcopal apparently was a joint venture of Phillips and Copal back when.  Looking at Vishay products I didn't see anything looks like what you have though.

EDIT #2:  I must be bored this Friday afternoon...  So, found this BC Component catalog from 1999.  Look on pages 140 and 141.  Those look a lot like your parts.  But, renamed series/pns...

Searching on CRC17 and MRC17 modules turns up some hits too but not sure if these are available other than old stock either.

You da man! Thanks for your time! The MRC17 looks exactly like it.

What did you search to find it?
