Sharp Aquos 20B4M LCD
« on: July 23, 2024, 10:07:05 am »
Hello

My Sharp Aquos 20B4M LCD has got one dead CCFL. Because of this the TV is going into protection mode and not turning on.
It turns on in adjustment mode (hold down the "TV/VIDEO" and "MENU" keys at once, and turn on the "POWER" switch) for about 5 sec then shuts down.
Is there a way to bypass the protection mode, so that it can run even with one dead cfl.

you will have to pull the inverter board and see which controller chip it has, then goggle that number to see if anyone has written up how to, it can be done on lots off controller so should be Posible

I googled a bit and found the solution.
I used a 100k 2watt resistor in parallel with the dead ccfl and it worked.
The TV still started in adjustment mode but didn't shut down. Then after pressing the "CH (Ù)" and "VOL (–)" keys
at once, the adjustment process mode screen showed up and then after resetting the fault counter to 0, it started normally.
There is a faint black line across the screen, but atleast its running now. The resistor does get hot, but has not burned out.
I will try to get a replacement CCFL, if not then I will convert it to LED.
